Getting Here

Getting here is easy

Although many people arrive by car, getting here is surprisingly easy if you don’t have your own transport. Once here, getting around is also easy with a range of options available.

Despite being small townships and a little off the main highway, Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens are well serviced with daily transport to and from both towns.

So if you don’t have a car, don’t worry! You will be amazed how easy it is to get here and how many travel options are available, including:
train (and bus – the last leg of the journey is by bus)
plane (coupled with private / public transfer services)
coach services (from Newcastle or Taree will drop you off in the centre of town).
Getting here by push bike

Bring your bikes and see the sites

If you arrive without your own transport, don’t worry, most things in and around Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest are within walking distance (assuming you like walking and are without injury).

Some venues run courtesy buses if you want a night out. You will need to call the venues to confirm what times the courtesy buses run. There is also hire car transport available. This is an affordable option with Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest being small townships. Of course, there is also the option of walking to and from your destination.

Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest are also accessible from Nelson Bay with ferry services running several times a day. Many people arrive from the Bay with their push bikes and spend the day exploring on two wheels. All ferry services from Nelson Bay arrive at Tea Gardens. From Tea Gardens you can walk to Hawks Nest beach. This is a 20 to 30 minute walk through the Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest shopping precincts (so you will have ample opportunity to buy a cold drink or stop for a coffee and something to eat). With ferry services running until late in the afternoon, you will have all day to enjoy the area.
